Encaustic is an ancient medium - beeswax and resin.  I melt the wax, apply it to a substrate (usually board), and fuse layer upon layer with a heat gun or torch to create an image.  Encaustic has a luminous quality which I would describe as very tactile and gestural.  I hope you enjoy seeing some of my works.  

"Pastel does not refer to pale colors, as the work is commonly used in the fashion and cosmetic industries.  Pastels are made with exactly the same pigment used to make all art paints.  Powered pigment, mixed with a little water and a special binder, is ground into a paste, rolled into sticks, and left too dry.  The name comes from the French word pastiche, meaning paste.  It is a painting medium with a full range of artistic possibilities.  In the hands of a skilled painter, with knowledge of pastel's properties, a complete range of colors, values, and techniques is possible."       Albert Handel
